You’ll visit a lakefront jewelry studio, enjoy a guided farm tour on the shores of Japan’s largest lake, and explore the beautifully preserved canal town of Ōmi-Hachiman.
You’ll discover the story of Biwa pearls — their deep connection to nature, time, and personal meaning — and if you wish, design a one-of-a-kind jewelry piece using your choice of pearls and materials. This is a personal journey into one of Japan’s rarest traditions — a chance to slow down, learn, and connect.
You’ll leave with a small gift, a meaningful reminder of your day by the lake.

🕰️ Itinerary (Hosted in English)
10:40 AM – Meet at JR Ono Station (Kosei Line)
Meet your host at JR Ono Station and begin your scenic journey along the shores of Lake Biwa to a serene lakefront studio in Ōtsu.
10:45–11:45AM – Studio Visit, Tea & Optional Design
Enjoy tea and handmade sweets while learning about Biwa pearls and their unique history.

12:00-1:00PM – Lunch at a Lakeview Restaurant
Dine at a cozy restaurant overlooking the lake.
1:30-3:00PM – Visit to a Biwa Pearl Farm
Get rare, behind-the-scenes access to a Lake Biwa pearl farm. Learn how world‘s first freshwater pearls are cultivated and meet the people reviving this vanishing craft.
3:00-5:00PM – Explore Ōmi-Hachiman & La Collina
Walk the historic canal district of Ōmi-Hachiman and visit La Collina, a landmark where nature, architecture, and sweets beautifully blend.
5:00 PM – Return to JR Katata or Ōmi-Hachiman Station
End the day relaxed and inspired. If you co-designed a piece, your custom jewelry will be handcrafted and delivered to your hotel or shipped to your home.
